8 Tips for Making Salat Regularily

Prayer is one form of ibadah which many people (although knowing they should do it);whether it be accidental or purposefully; miss. There are many excuses people use to explain why they don't pray:

✖No time

✖Where to pray?

✖I simply forget

✖I just keep missing it no matter what I do.

I used all those excuses and more! Once I got my salat on track I decided I had to share how I finally made it happen.

1. Make Niyyah (intention)

We all know niyyah is very important. To make any change to your life especially one which takes commitment like salat every part of you mind body and soul have to want it.

2.Get an App(s)

For those of us not lucky enough to hear the athan, we need other ways of knowing prayer times. That means both phone and laptop. I like the Athan app by Islamic finder but there are many others. If you are uncomfortable with the Athan sounding while you're in public simply change settings to be just a notification.

3.Keep Your Wudu

That doesn't mean don't go to the bathroom all day. It means when you go you make wudu right away. Not having wudu made is one of the most common reasons salat is missed. People are just not ready when the time comes.

4. Plan Ahead

As you plan your errands, meals, etc. Make salat part of that plan. If you know you need to pray before you leave the house or you'll miss Duhur be sure to be ready 15 mins early so you don't rush out. We all know salat will be the thing skipped in a hurry.

5. Don't Leave it for Later

Later does not exist when getting your salat on track. As soon as your Athan notifies you, take the nearest opportunity to pray. Later will become never.

6. Always be Prepared

This means whatever you need to pray have it with you. Whether it's a pocket prayer mat, compass, hijab, appropriate prayer clothes, etc. I have a portable prayer mat in my car. Wherever there is an appropriate place to pray, I will be ready.

7. Surround Yourself With People Who Pray

This is probably the best tips I can give you. When you have people around you that remind you to pray and invite you to pray together you WILL pray. Whether it is something you do regularly or only when in their company at least you have that motivation. I have friends (you know who you are Winnie and Ahmed) that I give a great deal of credit to for getting me on track. They showed me how easy salat was. They helped me to feel comfortable praying anywhere and most importantly they helped me realize how Salat makes my life better. May Allah reward them for their efforts.

8. Forgive Yourself

You may not get on track right away but that's ok. Remember that Allah (swt) says:

"Take one step towards me, I'll take ten steps towards you. Walk towards me, I'll run towards you" (Hadith Qudsi)

Be kind to yourself and know that it will happen sooner than later you just have to keep trying. One prayer is better than no prayers and 3 is better than 1.

I hope my tips will help you on your journey. On the 1st day you pray all 5 prayers I want to hear from you. I want to celebrate with you!
